At Rio Grande Urology, our technology platform also includes the Varian Halcyon system, a high-tech linear accelerator engineered around a streamlined, fully integrated ring-gantry design that emphasizes speed, consistency, and precision.
Unlike traditional C-arm systems, Halcyon utilizes a closed, bore-style architecture that enables rapid gantry rotation and highly stable mechanical performance. This design reduces variability in beam delivery and supports tight geometric tolerances throughout treatment. The system is powered by a 6 MV flattening filter-free (FFF) beam, optimized for efficient dose delivery with consistent beam quality.
A defining feature of the Halcyon platform is its dual-layer multileaf collimator (MLC). This stacked configuration allows for highly refined beam shaping and reduced radiation leakage, enhancing dose conformity while maintaining delivery efficiency. The absence of a traditional flattening filter, combined with high dose rate capability, supports rapid beam-on times without compromising dosimetric accuracy.
Integrated onboard imaging is built directly into the system workflow. Halcyon incorporates high-quality kV cone-beam CT (CBCT) imaging with automated acquisition and reconstruction, allowing for fast, consistent image guidance and alignment verification within the same high-tech environment.
From a systems perspective, the Halcyon is designed with a fully digital control architecture that synchronizes imaging, beam delivery, and motion management into a unified process. Automated setup verification, simplified mechanical components, and reduced moving parts contribute to both reliability and reproducibility.
