Aquablation is a minimally invasive treatment for benign prostate enlargement that uses a high-pressure, heat-free stream of water to remove prostate tissue blocking urine flow. During the procedure, imaging helps the surgeon map the prostate and identify the tissue that should be treated while protecting important surrounding structures. A robotically controlled waterjet then removes the targeted tissue according to the treatment plan. Because the procedure is performed through the urethra, there is no external incision. A catheter is generally placed afterward while swelling and bleeding improve. The goal is to create a more open urinary channel and improve symptoms such as weak flow and incomplete bladder emptying.
