Radical orchiectomy is the standard surgical approach when testicular cancer is suspected. Rather than removing the testicle through the scrotum, the surgeon makes an incision in the groin and removes the affected testicle along with the spermatic cord through that opening. This approach helps avoid disrupting lymphatic pathways that are important in the evaluation and treatment of testicular cancer. The removed tissue is examined by a pathologist to determine whether cancer is present and, if so, identify its type. Additional imaging, blood tests, or treatment may be recommended based on the pathology results and whether there is evidence of disease elsewhere.
