An inflatable penile prosthesis is a surgically implanted device used to create a reliable erection for men with erectile dysfunction that has not responded adequately to other treatments. Inflatable cylinders are placed inside the penis, a small fluid reservoir is positioned internally, and a discreet pump is placed in the scrotum. When an erection is desired, squeezing the pump transfers fluid into the cylinders, making the penis firm. Activating the release mechanism returns the fluid to the reservoir and the penis becomes soft again. The device is entirely contained within the body and does not change sensation, orgasm, or sexual desire directly.
