Robotic radical prostatectomy is a minimally invasive operation most commonly used to treat prostate cancer that appears to be confined to the prostate. Through several small abdominal incisions, the surgeon controls robotic instruments that provide a magnified three-dimensional view and precise movement inside the pelvis. The prostate gland and typically the seminal vesicles are removed, and selected lymph nodes may also be removed when clinically appropriate. The bladder is then carefully reconnected to the urethra so urine can pass normally. A urinary catheter remains temporarily while this connection heals.
